On December 3, 2024, the Korea AI & System IC Innovation Center (K-ASIC) hosted Tech&Toast: Semiconductor at its Silicon Valley headquarters, bringing together over 60 participants including Korean resident startups, California state officials, and semiconductor industry experts. The seminar focused on the evolving U.S. semiconductor policy landscape following the presidential election, and explored new business incentives offered by the California state government to attract global semiconductor players.

Keynote Briefings: U.S. Election Impact & California Incentive Programs

The seminar featured two guest speakers from the California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz):

  • Dr. Michael Karavolias, Statewide Industry Engagement Manager at GO-Biz, delivered a timely analysis of the U.S. semiconductor landscape in 2025 and beyond, outlining key shifts expected under the new administration and their implications for international semiconductor players.

  • Claire Gordon, Foreign Investment Analyst at GO-Biz, presented California’s tailored incentive programs for semiconductor and AI companies—including support for R&D, capital investment, workforce development, and green tech adoption. These insights were particularly relevant for Korean fabless firms and chip design houses seeking to expand operations in North America.

Strategic Networking & Collaboration Building

The final portion of the event featured a casual networking dinner where attendees engaged in deep discussion with GO-Biz officials, K-ASIC’s advisory experts, and Silicon Valley industry leaders. Conversations centered around:

  • Reviewing resident companies’ technologies and U.S. strategies

  • Identifying joint development and go-to-market opportunities

  • Strengthening Korea–U.S. R&D and investment ties

With the U.S. policy environment rapidly evolving, K-ASIC remains committed to equipping Korean semiconductor firms with the insights, networks, and tools needed to thrive globally.
